Comparison of ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes in MBR membranes

Ultrafiltration membrane and microfiltration membrane in MBR membrane are two common membrane separation technologies, which have some differences in filtration accuracy, application fields, and performance characteristics.

  1.Filtering accuracy:

Ultrafiltration membrane: With a filtration accuracy between 0.001 and 0.1 microns, it can filter out harmful substances such as rust, sediment, suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, and macromolecular organic matter in water, while retaining some beneficial mineral elements for the human body.

Microfiltration membrane: With a filtration accuracy between 0.1 and 1 micrometers, it can allow large molecules and soluble solids to pass through and trap suspended solids, bacteria, and high molecular weight colloids.

  2.Application field:

Ultrafiltration membrane: commonly used in the production process of mineral water, mountain spring water, and comprehensive purification of household drinking water. It is often used as a pre-treatment for reverse osmosis and ion exchange in water treatment.

Microfiltration membrane: commonly used in water pretreatment systems, such as industrial wastewater treatment, drinking water production, and high-purity water preparation.

  3.Performance characteristics:

Ultrafiltration membrane: It has the characteristics of small pore size, uniform pore size, and high opening rate. High quality ultrafiltration membranes also have advantages such as long service life, high average flux, high peak flux, high membrane filament strength, low drug consumption, and low electricity consumption.

Microfiltration membrane: The membrane used is a microporous membrane with an average pore size of 0.02-10, which can intercept particles with a diameter of 0.05-10 or polymer substances with a molecular weight greater than 1 million. The operating pressure difference is generally 0.01-0.2 MPa.

In summary, there are differences between ultrafiltration membranes and microfiltration membranes in terms of filtration accuracy, application areas, and performance characteristics. In practical applications, suitable membrane technologies should be selected based on specific needs and processing conditions.
